Nurturing Artists

Recently the All Superstars Preschool Einsteins took a field trip to local business, Hands on Art Gallery. Hands on Art Gallery is not your run-of-the-mill art gallery. The studio is spacious and filled with myriad art supplies and the enthusiastic personality of owner and artist Lorna Bluestein.

As a former preschool teacher, Lorna was excellent at demonstrating and instructing the keen little artists on the morning’s art project.

The students learned how to “Fluid Paint”. This is one of many art mediums available at Hands on Art Gallery and involves filling a cup with paint and spilling it over a canvas.

If you think this sounds messy, it can be if you’re not careful! Our superbly well-behaved children were able to do their paintings without any major messes as they were laser-like focused on getting their projects perfect!

The children were instructed to select between 2 and 5 of their favorite colors, fill their small plastic cups with them (in layers) and spill the paint over their canvas.

Lorna demonstrated two different ways to transfer the paint to the canvas, and they can be seen in the below video

The pouring of the multicolored paint over the canvases can create stunning patterns and effects.

In order to move the paint over the entire canvas, the children would either tilt the canvas to spread the paint or use supplied straws to blow the paint to the uncovered areas of the canvas.

The children had a blast creating their masterpieces and they produced some fantastic pieces of art.

Here at All Superstars Preschool, we feel it is incredibly important to expose young children to all forms of art during their early years. Fostering an appreciation and desire to create assists in the development of fine motor-skills, creative thought and confidence.
